Launch our full reader app to bring your to-be-read pile to life, private book logging, and more!

Ben Fox

What is this feature?

We are working on a full app for readers that will bring their TBR pile to life, record what they read with private notes, and use that data to help them find books they love (not just like). Plus, we want to make it fun to celebrate the books we love and reward those authors on Shepherd.

How will we bring your TBR list to life?

  • I want to make it super easy to add a book to your list and an optional note for why you added it (or how you met it).
  • I want to sort your TBR pile by genre, topic, theme, trope, mood, age group, author, and more.
  • I want to make it easy to organize your TBR (and read books) within folders or saved filters. I want to create a folder for my book club, see what we read, and what is in my TBR that I tagged for my book club.

Here is an early mockup of the TBR app...

This is super early, so remember that a lot is being tested and played with.

And a smaller format we are testing...

Once a book is read...

  • I want to make it easy to record the books I read, how I feel about them, and private notes. I have no plans to do page-tracking, as I want to record what books I read and how I felt about them.
  • I want the rating data to match me with similar readers and help me find books I will LOVE (not just like). I want to spot the trending books before everyone else 😄.
  • I want to make celebrating the books we love fun and rewarding those authors with more readers. Books mean the world to me, and I want to celebrate them. As we launch more of this, we will expand our focus to create the most beautiful pages for readers to celebrate the books they love.

Here is an early mockup of the Reading Log page...

Showing what someone is currently reading...
And below that what they have read...
And logging a read...

We are building and testing mockups with readers.

Why is this update important?

  • This is one of our three goals for readers and is massively important to our mission. We want to be the platform that brings their to-be-read pile to life. Why? Because book discovery is the heart of what Shepherd does for readers and authors. We need more book discovery 😄.
